The Medical Assistant I Certified provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare teams in an outpatient clinic setting. Key Responsibilities- Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting patient data, including vital signs, medical history, and reason for visit.
- Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.
- Review patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
- Assist providers during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
- Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
- Administer medications under provider direction.
- Perform tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under provider direction.
- Review patient records to determine routine health screenings.
- Ensure exam and treatment rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
- Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed.
- Prepare, clean, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
- Clean and sterilize instruments.
- Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals.
- Answer clinic phone and assist with in-basket tasks under provider or nurse direction.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred but not required.
- Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA required.
- Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association required.
- Prior medical assistant or externship experience preferred.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage positively with patients and families and work as a team with staff and providers.
- Ability to use a computer to document patient information into the electronic medical record.
