Job Description

Job Summary:

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Development Specialist to join our team. As a Program Development Specialist, you will be responsible for providing advanced consultative services and technical assistance to our staff. You will work closely with our training team to develop and implement training programs, coordinate training schedules, and ensure that our staff are equipped with the necessary skills to provide high-quality services to our youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement training programs for our staff, including in-class training and on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate training schedules with our training team and facility leadership.
  • Provide technical assistance to our staff to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills to provide high-quality services to our youth.
  • Work closely with our training team to develop and implement training materials, including training manuals, PowerPoint presentations, and other resources.
  • Collaborate with our subject matter experts to develop and implement training programs that meet the needs of our staff and youth.
  • Ensure that our training programs are aligned with our agency's policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to our staff to ensure that they are meeting the expectations of their roles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with our stakeholders, including facility leadership, training team, and other internal stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as education, social work, or psychology.
  • Four years of full-time wage-earning experience providing direct care services for juveniles in a correctional program or a program dealing with at-risk youth.
  • Experience in training and development, including developing and implementing training programs, coordinating training schedules, and providing technical assistance to staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with staff, stakeholders, and youth.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and the ability to apply this knowledge in a training setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years of progressively responsible full-time wage-earning experience specifically working in a direct care position providing supervision to youth in a TJJD state-operated facility.
  • Major course work in criminal justice, social work, education, behavioral science, public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Training or certification in a nationally recognized trauma-informed care system.

Working Conditions:

The Program Development Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays. The position may also require occasional travel.
