Correctional Officer

This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a juvenile residential mental health unit, facilitating youth rehabilitation, and supervising correctional staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in supervising or providing rehabilitation/treatment services to youth or adults in a treatment program, correctional program, or residential setting.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the daily operations of a juvenile residential mental health unit
- Facilitate youth rehabilitation and supervision of correctional staff
- Provide guidance to correctional staff regarding basic understanding of youth's mental health and behavioral diagnosis
- Use appropriate intervention methods in response to behavioral issues
- Maintain a consistent effort to ensure safe environments and employ security measures when necessary
- Interact and engage with youth in ways that maintain appropriate structure and exercise understanding of brain development in youth with complex trauma
- Participate in the Youth Service Team and provide input into each youth's treatment plan
- Implement and monitor youth activities, programs, and behaviors on an individual and group basis
- Provide services to potentially aggressive/combative youth in a correctional setting
- Physically restrain and secure youth when necessary
- Maintain security in buildings, grounds, and other posts
- Conduct searches for contraband and health/safety hazards
- Supervise assigned youth during daily activities
- Respond appropriately to youth grievances
- Must be at least 23 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of full-time wage earning experience supervising or providing rehabilitation/treatment services to youth or adults in a treatment program, correctional program, or residential setting
- Preferred: College degree or coursework in psychology or social work, one (1) year of related experience, and knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness
