Job Description

Job Summary:

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Development Specialist to join our team. As a Program Development Specialist, you will be responsible for providing advanced consultative services and technical assistance to our staff. You will work closely with our team to develop and implement training programs, coordinate training schedules, and ensure that our staff are equipped with the necessary skills to provide high-quality services to our youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement training programs for our staff, including in-class training and on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate training schedules with our team and facility leadership.
  • Ensure that our staff are equipped with the necessary skills to provide high-quality services to our youth.
  • Work closely with our team to troubleshoot training pitfalls and provide support to staff who are struggling with implementing skills and routines.
  • Communicate effectively with our Director of Training, Juvenile Justice Training Academy management, facility administration, and other internal stakeholders to support the needs of our staff.
  • Utilize a blended learning approach to effectively train both new hires and veteran staff on Texas Model concepts.
  • Work with our treatment department and facility to ensure that all new staff are trained on delivery of skills groups, nurture groups, and behavior chains.
  • Act as a resource for staff to assist with program needs, including providing refresher trainings, training materials, and facilitating DBT skills groups.
  • Perform a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined, and assigned as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four (4) years of full-time wage-earning experience providing direct care services for juveniles in a correctional program or a program dealing with at-risk youth.
  • Preferred: Four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time wage-earning experience specifically working in a direct care position providing supervision to youth in a TJJD state-operated facility.
  • Major course work in criminal justice, social work, education, behavioral science, public administration, business administration, or related field.
  • Training or certification in a nationally recognized trauma-informed care system.

Working Conditions:

  • Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • May be required to work alternating shifts, work in excess of 40 hours per work week, be on-call, and travel occasionally.
