Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Principal, the role involves educating and mentoring elementary, middle, or high school students who require specialized support in academic, social, and behavioral skills. Responsibilities include planning, developing, organizing, and facilitating a comprehensive individualized educational program for students facing multiple learning challenges. The Special Education Teacher will also assist instructional staff in adapting educational programs to promote greater independence among students with learning disorders. Additional duties include:
1) Providing support for the instructional framework for students with special needs,
2) Offering relevant information and consulting services to staff and parents,
3) Conducting ongoing assessments and evaluations of students,
4) Collaborating with regular classroom teachers and supporting the school’s Student Study Team/TAT.

Interns, Provisional Internship Permits, and Short Term Staff Permits will be taken into consideration.

A stipend is available for any newly credentialed teacher who commits to a three-year contract with the district. The stipend will be disbursed as follows:
a. $1,000 within 45 days after the commencement of paid contracted service.
b. $1,000 within 45 days after the start of the second year of contracted employment with the District.
c. $1,000 within 45 days after the beginning of the third year of contracted employment with the District.

Requirements / Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must complete online training in the following areas:
* New Employee Training
* Preventing Workplace Violence
* Bloodborne Pathogens
* Sexual Harassment
* Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter
Upon receiving an employment offer, candidates will be provided with information and instructions regarding this training.

Applicants must hold a valid California Teaching credential that authorizes service as a Special Education Teacher, specifically an Education Specialist Instruction Credential for Moderate/Severe or a Specialist Instruction Credential for Severely Handicapped, which includes the Autism authorization.

Interns will also be considered.

Comments and Other Information

Additional Salary Information:
* Upon hiring, salary placement will be determined based on the number of upper division/graduate level units earned from a WASC accredited four-year college or university. Units must be earned after the date of the Bachelor's degree.
* A maximum of fifteen (15) years of credit is permitted for teaching experience in a public school (K-12) or an accredited private school (K-12).
* A $500.00 stipend is available for those with a Doctoral degree.
