About the Role

The New York Times Company is seeking an experienced editor to join our team as a Senior Staff Editor. This is a unique opportunity to work with a talented group of editors and news designers to create engaging and informative content for our print readers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with editors and designers to develop and implement a cohesive content strategy for our print sections.
  • Review and edit content for accuracy, clarity, and style, ensuring that it meets the high standards of The New York Times.
  • Work closely with reporters and writers to develop and refine story ideas and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our audience and their needs, using this knowledge to inform content decisions.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, applying this knowledge to improve our content and processes.
  • Collaborate with other teams, including design and production, to ensure seamless execution of content plans.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and inclusive work environment, fostering a culture of collaboration and respect.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a newsroom or editorial setting.
  • Proven track record of success in editing and content development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of print media and its unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with a variety of subject areas, including international, business, and entertainment.
  • Experience with content management systems and other digital tools.
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices.
