Job Description

At the YMCA of the Inland Northwest, we are committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a School Age Program Director.

Job Summary

The School Age Program Director will oversee the program, activities, and staff for the assigned location. This includes maintaining a supportive, positive learning atmosphere for youth to participate in and practice YMCA values of Honesty, Respect, Caring, and Responsibility. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in a camp or after school setting and be able to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the program, activities, and staff for the assigned location, ensuring a safe and prepared learning space for youth.
  2. Supervise and create a positive rapport with youth, modeling relationship-building skills with participants and staff assisting with program activities.
  3. Nurture children through culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and purposeful programming, making ADA accommodations when appropriate.
  4. Provide opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provide daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  5. Provide and welcome ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress, connecting families to the Y programs and special events.
  6. Attend bi-weekly site director meetings and travel to schools in the local area to promote and lead before and after school programming.
  7. Follow all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law, state licensing and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 12 college credits in the field of education or related to school age children. Another 18 credits must be received within five years.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Upon job offer, must register in MERIT system, apply for a Portable Background Clearance and Fingerprints, and complete program-specific trainings.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or after school setting preferred.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Proof of MMR vaccination required for this position.

  • The employee is frequently required to adapt to flexible work hours and travel to multiple sites in their day-to-day duties.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to communicable diseases, thus engaging in frequent handwashing and use of disinfectant products.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
