Express Activity Leader

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Express Activity Leader to join our team at Garfield Elementary School. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a schedule of activities and events before and after school for school-age children.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a schedule of activities and events for school-age children.
  • Supervise children enrolled in the Express program.
  • Assist the Express site director in program development and activities.
  • Maintain records as required.
  • Carry out positive discipline as established by the program coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in working with elementary students.
  • Experience in a school setting or equivalent youth program preferred.
  • Education in child development or related field desirable.
  • 30 hours of Basic Training required within 60 days of hire.
  • 10 hours of additional STARS training required annually.
  • Maintain MERIT (Managed Education and Registry Information Tool).
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic communication skills.
  • CPR certificate, first aid card, food handler's permit, and proof of MMR Immunization required upon hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Physical ability to walk with students on field trips, bend and stoop, and lift 30 pounds.
