Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Utility Worker Trainee to join our team at the City of Abilene. As a Utility Worker Trainee, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the city's water and sewer systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, install, and replace damaged water distribution and sewage collection lines, valves, fire hydrants, pumps, meters, and meter assemblies.
  • Assist with cleanup and periodic maintenance of water utility property and easements.
  • Operate a City vehicle daily to travel to various worksites.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Texas driver's license or military waiver required.
  • Valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in confined workspaces. The employee must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods of time. The employee must also be able to work in extreme temperatures and be exposed to chemicals and hazardous materials.
