Position Overview:
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for acquiring fastener products for designated commodity categories. This role involves sourcing materials, overseeing inventory levels, and ensuring profitability. The individual will assess requests, engage with suppliers, and collaborate with various departments including sales, quality assurance, finance, and logistics. Key responsibilities include evaluating pricing, quality, and availability of products, comparing specifications, and exploring alternatives to fulfill service requirements, gross profit margins, inventory turnover, and other organizational goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role and may include additional tasks as assigned:
- Act as the primary liaison for suppliers within assigned commodity groups.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to provide exceptional customer service.
- Generate purchase orders with suppliers for product procurement, utilizing both primary and alternative suppliers as necessary.
- Regularly update reports on unconfirmed and overdue purchase orders with assigned suppliers.
- Facilitate inventory transfers between locations as required.
- Address and resolve discrepancies related to purchase orders and invoices, as well as issues concerning product returns and quality.
- Engage with vendors to expedite product delivery or arrange partial shipments.
- Coordinate with inside sales teams regarding changes in customer supply needs.
- Collaborate with the sourcing team to identify additional suppliers when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of item costs and lead times as needed.
- Utilize knowledge of market trends, freight costs, and customer usage in decision-making processes, including acceptance of price adjustments on purchase orders.
- Support and provide backup for team members within the department as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
A Bachelor's Degree in supply chain management, operations, logistics, materials management, or a related field is preferred; 3 years of experience in purchasing or inventory management is required, or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.
Proficiency in forecasting, MRP, supply chain, and inventory management principles is essential. Experience with fastener and MRO products is advantageous.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills, is necessary. The ability to learn and implement new procedures and technologies is important.
Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is preferred but not mandatory. Proven negotiation skills and a commitment to continuous improvement are required.
Strong interpersonal skills to foster constructive and cooperative working relationships are essential. The ability to identify and solve problems effectively is critical.
Critical thinking skills to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of various solutions, conclusions, or approaches to challenges are necessary.
Knowledge of sourcing principles and demand analysis is required, along with an understanding of customer service processes, including needs assessment and quality standards.
Ability to set goals, seek information, and make recommendations with minimal supervision is expected. A focus on sales and customer service (both internal and external) is essential.
Understanding of the broader company objectives and how individual contributions support these goals is important. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm for success are vital.
Teamwork orientation and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs are essential.
