About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mapping/GIS Analyst to join our team at the County of Santa Barbara. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will play a critical role in supporting departmental and countywide operations and decision-making through the analysis and management of spatial data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce complex maps, graphics, and reports in hard copy and digital formats for departmental use.
  • Meet with users to define data needs and requirements, and conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases.
  • Design, update, and create databases, and gather, analyze, integrate, and convert spatial data into maps using GIS software.
  • Perform quality control on data, identify and correct errors or omissions, and maintain metadata and documentation.
  • Provide technical mapping-related support to paraprofessional staff, and act as a lead worker as needed.
  • Analyze tasks and procedures, and develop applications to be used internally and by other County departments for querying and analysis of data within the County geospatial database.
Requirements
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in cartography, geography, GIS, or a closely related field, including instruction in/use of common CAD and GIS software.
  • Four years of paraprofessional, automated map generation experience, including experience with CAD and GIS software and some mapping analysis.
  • Three years of experience equivalent to Mapping/GIS Technician with Santa Barbara County.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Cadastral or GIS certification.
  • Coursework or familiarity in land use planning and environmental studies, surveying, navigation and global positioning systems, graphic arts, mechanical drafting and computer aided drafting, engineering, document layout, reprographics, aerial photo interpretation, photogrammetry, and/or website creation.
