The City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Technician to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations department, you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate payroll records, ensuring timely and compliant payment to employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and process payroll documents for completeness and accuracy
- Balance payroll reports and spreadsheets to ensure accurate payment
- Handle employee inquiries and requests for payroll information
- Work closely with HR to ensure accurate employee setup and maintenance
- Update and submit electronic reports as needed
- Run reports and download data files, filtering and formatting data as required
- Scan, save, and index documents for record retention purposes
- Process employment verifications and other inquiries as needed
- Assist management with special projects as needed
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college-level courses in payroll, computer information systems, bookkeeping, accounting, or a related field
- Two to three years of related experience and/or training in payroll record preparation, maintenance, and reporting, as well as HRIS and personal computer experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
