Position Title: Research Assistant - Chemistry
Overview:
Externa Biosciences is in search of a motivated Research Assistant to enhance our Chemistry division. In this pivotal role, you will contribute significantly to the innovation and evaluation of new therapeutic compounds. Your tasks will encompass sample preparation, executing HPLC and LC-MS analyses of small molecules, peptides, and nucleic acid oligomers, while supporting a dynamic and progressive therapeutic research and development environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a variety of chemical reactions, analyzing outcomes across multiple projects at Externa Biosciences, aiding in the creation of novel high-value materials.
- Utilize and maintain a range of analytical instruments, ensuring their proper upkeep and calibration, including but not limited to HPLC and LC-MS. Assist in managing and coordinating the maintenance of instruments and equipment as required, and perform routine calibration and QA/QC checks.
- Keep precise records of analytical methods, results, and documentation, providing comprehensive reports and summaries on completed tests and future actions. Review, update, and draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to experiments and tests.
- Support the management, coordination, and procurement of essential laboratory supplies, including chemicals and equipment, while maintaining an inventory of materials necessary for executing job responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, with 1-2 years of hands-on experimental and/or analytical experience, particularly with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC and LC-MS.
- Practical laboratory skills acquired in either academic or industrial settings, with a solid understanding of organic and analytical chemistry.
- Experience with peptides and/or nucleic acids is advantageous.
- A genuine enthusiasm for scientific inquiry and a solid grasp of laboratory operations, including instrumentation, materials, and safety protocols.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Openness to acquiring new skills as necessary to support team success.
