Job Overview

Hospice of the Piedmont Inc. is actively seeking a committed and proficient Registered Nurse to be part of our Evening, Night, & Weekend Team (NEWT), providing essential care during after-hours in an on-call capacity. As a nurse within our hospice framework, you will be instrumental in ensuring the comfort, dignity, and overall well-being of our patients.

Position Details:

This is a full-time role, operating Monday through Friday from 3pm to 11pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond swiftly to service calls and conduct home visits to evaluate patients' needs while delivering compassionate nursing care.
  • Continuously assess and re-evaluate patient requirements, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal comfort and quality of life.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding disease progression, symptom management, and end-of-life care options.
  • Provide specialized nursing services in accordance with agency protocols, ensuring precise and timely documentation of patient assessments and interventions using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Actively engage in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing valuable insights to the overall care strategy.
  • Stay informed about best practices and advancements in hospice care through ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia.
  • A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is preferred, particularly in hospice, palliative care, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of hospice regulations, practices, and standards of care, along with excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build rapport with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • A compassionate and empathetic disposition, coupled with a genuine desire to provide comfort and support during challenging times.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, proficient in utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare software.
