Job Title: Assistant Corporate Counsel

C.W. Matthews Contracting Company is seeking an experienced Assistant Corporate Counsel to join their team in Marietta, GA. As a key member of the company's legal department, you will provide advice to management on contracts, claims, and other legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice to management on contracts, claims, and other legal matters.
  • Negotiate business deals and assist with the negotiation of construction management agreements, subcontracts, and other complex legal agreements.
  • Investigate and defend pre-litigation bodily injury and workers' compensation claims.
  • Liaison with and provide support to outside counsel on all matters in litigation.
  • Handle legal inquiries from within the company and offer comprehensive legal advice to all internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with management to resolve claims with third parties.
  • Assist Corporate Counsel on a variety of legal matters.
  • Investigate and defend pre-litigation bodily injury and workers' compensation claims.
  • Oversee handling of property damage claims and pursue recovery of others at fault.
  • Assist with labor and employment matters and claims.
  • Oversee potential breach of contract and claims for contractual additional compensation.
  • Oversee and provide strategic leadership to a team of six employees.
  • Meet with department heads to review and discuss potential legal issues or regulatory compliance.
  • Address all insurance matters dealing with placement, compliance, and procurement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team and Corporate Counsel.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university and a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, required.
  • Bar Admission in Georgia or willing to secure the same, required.
  • 2-7 years of experience in the regular practice of law in a corporate legal department and/or a full-service law firm.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks daily and complete tasks with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and decisively make decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
