Position Overview:
Hatch is seeking a highly skilled professional to contribute to our Energy team, focusing on the design and implementation of electrical systems within medium and high voltage substations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will:

  • Develop and review comprehensive electrical design packages tailored for substation projects.
  • Analyze standard substation schematics and equipment configuration requirements.
  • Utilize industrial communication protocols, including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP3.0, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Assess designs for overall effectiveness, cost efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Investigate failure root causes to enhance quality and recommend improvements.
  • Create SCADA point lists, RTU programs, and HMI interfaces under the guidance of a lead engineer.
  • Formulate complete design packages for site network and communication architectures, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards.
  • Implement robust cybersecurity measures on substation devices, adhering to NERC CIP compliance requirements.
  • Review both internal and external designs for code compliance and best practices.

Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel to client sites may be necessary.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8-12 years of professional experience in the design, modeling, development, and testing of substation communication systems related to SCADA/EMS and teleprotection.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with proficiency in English for both written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating project ownership.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Prior experience in utility consulting.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Manager of Power Delivery & Integration within the Energy sector.
