Position Overview: As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will leverage your design and analytical expertise to spearhead the creation of innovative products from initial concept through to production. The new product development team focuses on designing cutting-edge solutions for the card personalization sector. Your proficiency in embedded hardware design, firmware development, prototyping, debugging, and collaborating with multiple vendors will be essential for your success in this position. You will have the chance to innovate electronics utilized in printing, smart card technology, RFID, motion control, and laser systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and prototype microcontroller and microprocessor-based products through schematic capture.
  • Develop firmware and/or FPGA designs.
  • Conduct testing and validation of new designs.
  • Transition designs into production.
  • Identify engineering trends and formulate strategies to steer the organization's technical direction.
  • Collaborate with vendors and sourcing teams to establish technical specifications for products/components.
  • Ensure new designs meet applicable regulatory standards such as UL, FCC, and CE.
  • Create and implement test plans for hardware and software validation.
  • Design and develop test fixtures to confirm the functionality of circuit boards and systems for production testing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, schematic capture, layout, and board bring-up.
  • Extensive experience in analog and digital circuit design, including DC/DC power supplies, Ethernet, USB, DDR memory, PCIe, SPI, I2C, and UARTs.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and/or VHDL or Verilog.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, lab technicians, product management, and customers in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must possess legal authorization to work in the US without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with EE design tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics).
  • Experience with FPGA tools (e.g., Xilinx, Microsemi, Altera).
  • Background in smart card technology, printing, or stepper motor design.
  • Basic understanding of project management principles (timelines, costs, requirements, resources).
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, schematic capture, layout, and board bring-up.
