Job Summary:

The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time Clinical Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Assistant Professor in Small Animal Surgery.

The successful candidate will join the Small Animal Surgery Section, which is comprised of experienced ACVS Diplomates, residents, and interns, and a dynamic group of certified veterinary technicians.

The UW Veterinary Care teaching hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including arthroscopy, 3T MRI, CT, ultrasound, 3D printing, and force-platform gait analysis.

The Department and School are interested in continuing to develop innovative academic programs, including translational clinical research studies in small animal genetics, musculoskeletal imaging, arthroscopic surgery, integrated trauma care, 3D printing for limb deformity correction, total joint arthroplasty, virtual mechanical testing using finite element modeling, acquired laryngeal paralysis neuropathy in dogs, and tooth resorption in cats.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include providing clinical service in the teaching hospital, participation in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, residents, and interns, and pursuit of clinical research.

Clinical duties will include leading resident-based or student-based rounds that involve approximately 5 hours per week.

Workplace time commitment will include 30-36 weeks/year of Clinics (60-75% effort), and 30% non-clinical Teaching lectures/year and 15-20 laboratories/year, and Service (10% effort).

Clinic weeks will be split between clinical practice of Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic and the Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery Clinic, with ~50% clinic time with each service.

American College of Veterinary Surgeons or European College of Veterinary Surgeons Board certified or Board Eligibility with completion of residency in small animal surgery at the time of start date.

License/Certification:

Required

Wisconsin Veterinary License

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin by start date.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 25% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
