POSITION OVERVIEW

Denver Rescue Mission is seeking a dedicated professional who is passionate about fostering a secure environment for all stakeholders.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Risk Manager is essential in assessing, designing, executing, and managing safety and risk initiatives for guests, employees, facilities, and volunteers at Denver Rescue Mission. This position requires collaboration across various departments to ensure adherence to vital policies and procedures, including compliance with regulations and contractual obligations. The initiatives aim to mitigate risks associated with employee injuries, liability claims, property damage, and operational disruptions due to various hazards. The Risk Manager will also engage with third-party service providers, insurance companies, and regulatory bodies to represent the organization effectively. This role supports compliance with established policies and practices, promoting a safe and healthy environment for all individuals involved.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety and Risk Oversight
  • Administers the employee risk program, focusing on safety protocols for employees, facilities, guests, and volunteers, including workers' compensation and training programs such as de-escalation and emergency response.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive risk management strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages issue resolution processes, including the identification, investigation, assessment, and remediation of operational risks, leading after-action reviews as necessary.
  • Collaborates with various departments to enhance their understanding and management of operational risks.
  • Prepares and delivers risk assessments and reports to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develops, facilitates, and monitors safety and compliance training initiatives.
  • Leads the Safety Task Force, Safety Committee, and related working groups.
  • Conducts audits to ensure program implementation and sustainable compliance.
  • Ensures staff receive appropriate training to maintain guest safety, including emergency response drills.
  • Maintains certifications in CPR/First Aid, OSHA, and other relevant areas as assigned.
  • Provides staff with information on preventive health measures and collaborates with leadership on public health initiatives.
  • Conducts investigations into incidents involving staff and guests, preparing reports and recommendations for improvements.
  • Works with site managers to perform job hazard analyses to identify and mitigate specific risks.
  • Evaluates and measures the impact of programs, enhancing current processes or developing new strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Partners with all departments to identify pressing safety and risk management issues and devise solutions.
HR Team Collaboration
  • As part of the HR Team, contributes to organization-wide or department-specific strategic initiatives, including meetings, training programs, and system upgrades.
  • Assists with special projects, events, and other assigned duties.
  • Performs additional job-related responsibilities as needed.
Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, occupational safety, risk management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in safety and risk management, including the development and implementation of relevant standards, policies, and training programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, health, environmental, and workers' compensation regulations.
  • Strong grasp of operational and risk management principles and practices.
  • Experience in building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a knack for identifying issues and crafting solutions.
  • Experience in leveraging technology and implementing process improvement methodologies.
  • Preferred certifications in safety and risk management fields.
  • Completion of OSHA training within six months of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and other relevant applications.
  • Professional demeanor in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Valid Driver's License required for occasional travel to various sites.
  • Availability to respond to incidents outside of standard business hours as necessary.
  • Alignment with the organization's Christian mission and values.

$64,800-$86,400
