Position Overview:
This role is designed for a mid-level engineer specializing in control systems and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical background to execute engineering tasks effectively while demonstrating the ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight. A solid understanding of stage-gated industrial projects is essential, along with excellent communication skills in various formats.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver instrumentation engineering support for a range of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Define project scopes during the detailed design phase and contribute to project planning and deliverable lists.
  • Review project schedules and provide constructive feedback.
  • Create project P&IDs of moderate complexity.
  • Develop procurement specifications and documentation.
  • Conduct thorough vendor document reviews.
  • Establish engineering budgets for smaller projects.
  • Generate basic Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates and Material Take-Offs (MTO).
  • Manage project scope and budget while adhering to engineering budgets.
  • Produce detailed specifications and construction packages.
  • Draft comprehensive construction scope of work documents for various project complexities.
  • Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) on vendor equipment, with potential travel requirements.
  • Perform quality checks on personal work outputs.
  • Comply with Anvil Corporation's Project Services Quality System (PSQS).
  • Work effectively within a small team of engineers and designers, guiding the design team in developing construction work packages.
  • Collaborate with other technical resource groups and project management to fulfill project requirements.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with vendor and client representatives.

Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in reading and developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Experience in as-built control and instrument systems in the field.
  • Ability to specify and size instrumentation for various industrial control applications.
  • Recognize when unique solutions are necessary for instrumentation and control challenges.
  • Expertise in specifying and sizing control valves and regulators.
  • Understanding of material and alloy considerations for instruments in industrial processes.
  • Capability to design infrastructure for industrial communication and control networks.
  • Knowledge of wiring, conduit, and cable tray methods for hazardous classified areas.
  • Prepare detailed designs in compliance with applicable codes and client standards.
  • Integrate control strategies with electrical motor controls.
  • Specify HMI, PLC, and DCS hardware and wiring.
  • Basic understanding of control panel layout and design considerations.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment and respective instrument design considerations.

  • Effective teamwork capabilities, both in-person and remotely.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in developing engineering and design budgets.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Able to identify personal technical strengths and weaknesses.
  • Willingness to travel to remote work sites as needed.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Applications.

Education and Certifications:
  • B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering is required.
  • 3-15 years of relevant professional experience in the oil and gas or related industries is required.
  • P.E. or Professional Engineer certification in Control Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • ISA or TUV certification in Functional Safety is preferred.

Preferred Skills:
  • Basic working knowledge of INtools (SPI).
  • Experience in front-end project development (FEL 1-2).
  • Understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Basic PLC and DCS programming experience.
  • Experience working on-site in maintenance or project groups.
  • Ability to create test plans and perform Factory and Site Acceptance Tests.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to perform computer work for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands for computer entry and communication.
  • Capable of occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Able to lift up to 15 lbs as necessary.
  • Willingness to work in industrial facilities, including climbing ladders and navigating uneven surfaces.
