Position Overview

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Trainee collaborates with experienced Casella Waste Diesel Technicians to acquire and enhance essential skills. This role involves conducting maintenance and repairs on vehicles and machinery, with a primary emphasis on preventative upkeep and ensuring the operational safety of all equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops an understanding of fundamental components, procedures, and maintenance practices as guided by seasoned technicians.
  • Learns to execute work orders and perform maintenance tasks based on driver inspections efficiently.
  • Adheres to company safety protocols and regulations to guarantee secure operations.
  • Assists senior technicians in carrying out preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Supports senior technicians on larger repair projects.
  • Identifies defects that require correction, impacting equipment availability and operator safety.
  • Adjusts vehicle brakes, clutches, and other essential systems.
  • Modifies hydraulic pressures and components of various equipment.
  • Conducts tire changes and repairs on vehicles and machinery.
  • Builds, rebuilds, or replaces hydraulic components and hoses for vehicles or stationary equipment.
  • Learns to implement accurate lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Engages in training and learning opportunities to broaden knowledge of the company, its products, and services while fulfilling additional duties to support the company's vision and core values.

Career Path Definitions

Trainee: Works alongside experienced technicians to learn and develop skills in maintenance and repairs, focusing on preventative measures and safety.

Technician B: Identifies operational issues through examination and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical problems using standard procedures and diagnostic tools.

Technician A: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs various vehicle systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Master Technician: Capable of inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing all vehicle and equipment systems, including rebuilding engines and mechanical systems.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Class A, B, or C Driver's license, and have basic knowledge or experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment diagnostics and repair. Strong verbal and written communication skills, effective listening, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to excellent customer service are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
