Job Summary

The ASPCA is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Animal Welfare Operations to lead our team at the Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) in Columbus, OH. As a senior leader, you will oversee the behavioral health and welfare of animals housed at the CRC, ensuring that our staff collaborate effectively to provide high-quality care.

About the Role

This leadership position requires a strong understanding of shelter animal behavior, excellent people management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other senior directors and teams. You will be responsible for supervising a team of 14 behavior experts, including 3 direct reports and 11 indirect reports, and working closely with other CRC leaders to facilitate pathway planning aligned with an integrated care model.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversight of behavioral health and welfare of animals at the CRC, emergency temporary shelters, and foster care.
  • Leadership of behavior operations, including monitoring treatment capacity and prioritizing behavior functions based on changing needs and resources.
  • Development and implementation of behavior modification plans, providing guidance to Senior Managers and Specialists as needed.
  • Maintenance of behavioral records in appropriate databases.
  • Hands-on coaching for Behavior Branch staff to grow skills and ensure consistent, effective treatment.
  • Ensuring consistent team use of organization-wide behavior guidelines, protocols, and assessment tools.
  • Purchasing related to behavior functions; monitoring budget lines and providing information to the VP to inform projections and propose yearly budget changes.
Requirements
  • Advanced animal behavior knowledge, including a strong foundation in learning theory and ethology.
  • Comprehensive understanding of shelter animal behavior and its integration into all aspects of shelter operations.
  • Effective people- and team-management abilities.
  • Exceptional leadership skills.
  • Proven history of building and maintaining positive and productive relationships.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $124,000 - $134,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a generous paid time off policy.
