OVERVIEW

Avance Consulting is looking for a Geographic Information Systems Competition Specialist to join a dynamic team focused on the identification and selection of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and storage initiatives. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and is pivotal in the creation, maintenance, and analysis of critical data. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), along with strong cartographic skills and technical proficiency. Organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines are essential for success in this position. Attention to detail and the capability to work independently with minimal supervision are crucial attributes. Proficiency in computer applications, especially GIS software and database-driven tools, is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with various departments within Avance Consulting's Renewable Energy Development group, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring.
  • Provide GIS and cartographic assistance to support Business Development efforts, including the production of high-quality maps.
  • Create and modify precise GIS data while maintaining spatial databases.
  • Conduct research and assess public and private datasets to guide the siting of renewable energy projects.
  • Perform both formal and informal research on industry competition projects, interconnection requests, ownership stakes, and energy markets; analyze environmental constraints, zoning and permitting requirements, and transmission capacity to evaluate project viability and economics.
  • Investigate government records and online databases to ascertain land interests.
  • Integrate research outcomes into GIS and tabular databases for spatial analysis by the competition analyst.
  • Prepare presentations and deliverables for regular updates to decision-makers.
  • Analyze data from development managers and land acquisition agents regarding trusts, probates, corporate entities, and conveyance documents to verify contract execution authority.
  • Collaborate with a software development team to assist in testing applications that streamline workflows.
  • Provide training to new team members on competition analysis workflows.
  • Engage directly with project developers to address inquiries and facilitate requests.

This position does not include direct report management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient in Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS, utilizing applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, along with a solid understanding of GIS capabilities.
  • Preferred experience in renewable energy development, project evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate, land records, local and state permitting, and environmental studies.
  • Experience in design, development, and debugging is a plus.
