Position Overview
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Bridge Supervisor within the Dallas District. This position is responsible for leading a team of over 20 bridge specialists dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the state's extensive bridge infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
The Bridge Supervisor will oversee the management of the largest bridge portfolio in Texas, comprising over 8,000 structures. This role includes:

  • Leading the bridge inspection team and coordinating with in-house design and geotechnical engineering groups.
  • Supervising consultant-led bridge design projects and reviewing shop drawings for compliance and quality.
  • Serving as a vital resource for bridge-related inquiries and decisions within the district.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $97,010 - $164,069, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Essential Duties
The Bridge Supervisor will:

  • Address technical and policy inquiries related to bridge inspections and maintain accurate inspection data.
  • Compile and manage a critical bridge list, collaborating with various stakeholders to address urgent safety concerns.
  • Conduct structural evaluations and inspections of bridges with significant appraisal ratings.
  • Participate in district plan reviews and recommend necessary actions for bridge repairs or replacements.
  • Represent the department at relevant meetings and conferences.
  • Oversee district bridge design functions and ensure compliance with engineering standards.

Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related field recognized by TX PELS.
Experience: A minimum of four years in transportation engineering, with at least one year in a supervisory role. Relevant graduate education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license is required. Professional Engineer licensure is preferred, with the expectation to obtain Texas licensure within six months of hire.

Competencies:
Strong knowledge of transportation design principles, bridge inspection methodologies, and structural engineering practices is essential. The ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects is crucial for success in this role.

Working Conditions
This position is primarily office-based, with occasional fieldwork required for bridge inspections, including emergency situations that may occur outside of regular hours.

Conditions of Employment
This role is classified as a Safety Impact position, requiring successful completion of a drug test prior to employment and subject to random drug testing thereafter.
