Position Overview
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Bridge Supervisor to lead the Dallas District Bridge team, which comprises over 20 bridge specialists.
This role entails managing the most extensive bridge portfolio in the state, encompassing more than 8,000 structures both on and off the system.
The Bridge Supervisor will direct our bridge inspection crew, in-house bridge design, and geotechnical engineering teams. Additionally, this position will oversee consultant-managed bridge design and the review of shop drawings for the district.
The selected candidate will serve as a vital resource for the district on all bridge-related matters and will act as a subject matter expert in decision-making processes concerning structural issues.
Compensation
Salary Range: $97,010 - $164,069

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise personnel engaged in transportation engineering tasks across various functional areas, including planning, design, construction, and bridge inspection.
- Ensure adherence to relevant federal and state laws, policies, and guidelines.
- Maintain communication with governmental officials, private entities, and contractors.
- Address technical and policy inquiries related to bridge inspections and manage inspection data.
- Coordinate with the Bridge Division and district staff on critical findings regarding state-maintained bridges.
- Conduct structural evaluations and inspections of bridges with specific condition ratings or those recommended for closure.
- Participate in district plan review activities and recommend actions for damaged bridges.
- Represent the department at various meetings and conferences.
- Oversee district bridge design functions and review complex plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Schedule and supervise bridge inspection activities.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related field recognized by TX PELS.
Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years in transportation engineering, with supervisory or managerial experience required. Relevant graduate education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license is required for this position.
- Professional Engineer license is necessary; candidates licensed in other states must obtain a Texas license within six months of hire.
Competencies:
- Proficiency in transportation design engineering principles and standards for bridges.
- Knowledge of bridge construction and evaluation methods.
- Ability to establish plans and objectives that align with business strategies.
- Experience in supervising technical staff.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based, with occasional fieldwork required for bridge inspections, including emergency situations that may occur after hours.
Conditions of Employment:
- Candidates must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety-sensitive positions. This role is subject to random drug testing as per regulations.
