Position Overview

The Turbomachinery Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the technical integrity of rotating machinery within the Olefins production area. This position serves as the primary engineering contact for the design, operation, and maintenance of rotating equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply industry standards such as Shell DEPs, ASME, and API to ensure compliance in all engineering activities.
  • Stay informed about advancements in rotating equipment technologies and implement relevant innovations at the facility.
  • Conduct thorough analyses, including root cause investigations and risk assessments, to address complex machinery issues.
  • Utilize Proactive Technical Monitoring (PTM) to enhance equipment reliability through predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Champion the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) process, actively participating in studies and program reviews.
  • Oversee the development and optimization of maintenance scopes for rotating equipment.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and ensure quality during repair operations.
  • Manage the procurement and inspection of spare parts necessary for overhauls.
  • Coordinate the layout and safety measures for maintenance activities to promote efficient execution.
  • Lead teams during pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of equipment.
  • Review and determine the scope for capital spare reconditioning after maintenance events.
  • Act as the contract holder for third-party services, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Facilitate technical training for maintenance and operations personnel to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Continuously develop personal expertise and leadership skills through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Provide insights for optimizing equipment performance and mitigating operational risks.
  • Identify and advocate for capital improvement projects related to rotating equipment.
  • Support project initiatives to ensure compliance with site standards and practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the engineering team.
  • Implement and manage changes in accordance with Shell's Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
  • Serve as a technical authority for project work and changes within the engineering domain.
  • Focus on improving Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) for critical rotating equipment.
  • Develop comprehensive maintenance plans for complex rotating machinery, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is essential.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in rotating equipment engineering within oil or petrochemical sectors.
  • Proficient in applying relevant industry standards and performance monitoring techniques.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintaining rotating machinery during significant maintenance activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Expertise in various types of rotating equipment, including compressors, turbines, pumps, and gearboxes.
