We are seeking a seasoned Ports Engineer Practice Lead to enhance our Southeast Region operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing and expanding the ports engineering practice within the Southeast Region.
  • Engaging in continuous business development initiatives.
  • Recruiting, managing, and inspiring engineering talent.
  • Conducting and overseeing structural analysis and design for both marine and upland elements.
  • Performing and supervising berthing and mooring assessments.
  • Leading the creation of plans, specifications, timelines, and cost projections for diverse port projects.
  • Applying comprehensive knowledge of maritime regulations and standards, including UFC, PIANC, and ASCE-61.
  • Independently drafting design bases, calculations, technical documentation, and alternative analyses.
  • Utilizing interdisciplinary insights to enhance project workflows and conduct quality assurance/quality control reviews.
  • Participating in client consultations and site evaluations.
  • Guiding and mentoring emerging engineers in the field of ports and maritime engineering.
  • Leveraging established industry connections to promote Volkert's ports services and facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Assuming additional responsibilities as dictated by regional business requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the analysis and design of port structures.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) License in Florida.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of medium to large-scale port and maritime structures, including the preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Proven track record in business development.
  • Ability to recruit, manage, and motivate engineering staff.
  • Established relationships with port authorities in Florida.
