Job Overview

SUMMARY: The individual in this role is accountable for executing a variety of tasks, including the setup, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of designated machinery and auxiliary equipment. This position involves inspecting products to meet specified standards or job documentation and making necessary adjustments and tool modifications to uphold quality standards. The operator will drive performance outcomes related to safety, quality, productivity, and profitability while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Capable of thriving in a dynamic, high-speed environment while adhering to all operational protocols and safety practices.
  • Engages in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing key performance metrics.
  • Proactively manages setup adjustments to ensure successful initial production runs.
  • Operates, adjusts, and troubleshoots press welding machinery and related equipment, ensuring proper die settings, material specifications, and programming for safe and efficient operation.
  • Diagnoses machine faults by applying knowledge of programming logic and operational parameters.
  • Maintains open communication with the press welding team, material handlers, and management regarding relevant operational information.
  • Identifies and escalates non-conformance issues while focusing on minimizing waste and rework.
  • Assists team members with loading and unloading materials to meet productivity goals.
  • Plays a vital role in machine maintenance and reliability through active participation in preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Completes necessary documentation and timekeeping accurately to manage inventory and job costs.
  • Ensures cleanliness and organization of personal and shared workspaces.
  • Performs additional duties and cross-training as directed by supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Candidates should possess a High School diploma or equivalent, along with the following qualifications: a minimum of one year of machine operation training or relevant experience; demonstrated troubleshooting and mechanical skills; proficiency in using various hand and power tools; and the ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely. Candidates must also be able to read and interpret both metric and standard measurements, as well as comprehend technical documents.

Strong communication skills, effective listening, and teamwork abilities are essential. Candidates should demonstrate organizational skills and the capacity to collaborate with others to align decision-making with company objectives. A positive attitude, multitasking capability, and a sense of urgency are also important. Preferred qualifications include experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Kaizen and 5S, as well as familiarity with lean management practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform repetitive movements, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting materials of varying sizes and weights. Employees must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, utilizing proper lifting techniques and assistance when necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is primarily on the production floor, necessitating the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Employees may be exposed to noise, dust, heat, and cold, as well as machine and tool hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
