Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team at Ohio Gratings, Inc. As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for operating machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders to produce precision metal parts without computer numerical control (CNC).

The ideal candidate will have excellent mechanical skills, be able to read blueprints and plans, and have experience with progressive machining. You will work in a fast-paced environment and be responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring the quality of parts produced.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate manual machines within the machine shop.
  • Operate fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials for machines.
  • Use measuring tools to check tolerances and quality of parts produced.
  • Examine and measure completed units and parts to identify defects and ensure units conform to specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of time to complete jobs, completed quantity, and scrap quantity.
  • Read and understand layouts, job travelers, and blueprints for parts being run.
  • Perform side operations during machine cycle time as required.
  • Follow set-up procedures and recommend improvements.
  • Inspect machinery for repairs and perform minor repairs within expertise.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area.
  • Comply with applicable safety standards and regulations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/technical school training and apprenticeship in Machining Technology preferred.
  • Ability to operate various types of machine tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and plans.
  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending required.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds at a time.
