Disease Intervention Specialist

This is a contract position with a current end date of January 31, 2026, with possibility of extension. This position offers full benefits (medical, dental, vision, including retirement & pension eligibility).
This position is located at the California Department of Public Health Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch (STDCB) in Richmond, CA.
The deadline to apply for this position is Friday, October 25.
This position is assigned to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control Branch, and is under the direction of the Disease Intervention Section (DIS) Chief.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides training and technical assistance to local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to build their capacity in planning, implementing, and evaluating STD/HIV DIS activities.
- Collaborates with the STD Control Branch's (STDCB) epidemiologic and clinical staff to provide technical assistance in outbreak identification, investigation, and containment strategies.
- Provides responsive, high-quality services to LHJs, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public by providing accurate, complete, and up-to-date information in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner.
- Works collaboratively with managers and staff within the STDCB, Office of Aids (OA), as well as external stakeholders to support outbreak response needs, develop tools, and write reports that contribute to data-driven STD-HIV response.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum of 3 years directly related experience.
- Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals/analyses.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Working skills in training, teaching, presenting public health concepts related to disease intervention.
- Critical thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and demonstrate flexibility.
