As a Gunsmith II, you will operate under the guidance of the Shop D Supervisor, engaging in comprehensive tasks related to the assembly and disassembly of military small arms and other infantry weaponry, including diagnostics and repairs.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Duties:
- Assess the scope of repairs needed; disassemble and inspect components for functionality; replace parts as necessary.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with small arms and infantry weapon systems.
- Evaluate the serviceability of components; demonstrate initiative to ensure progress and take accountability for outcomes.
- Utilize common hand tools and shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Diagnose and propose solutions for typical failures encountered in the maintenance of artillery and small arms, with minimal supervision, employing various diagnostic methods.
- Support colleagues in understanding proper maintenance procedures and capabilities related to small arms and associated test equipment.
- Perform additional tasks as required to achieve organizational goals.
- Be adaptable to changes in job responsibilities based on contractual obligations.
Work Environment:
- Work primarily occurs in a shop setting, with potential outdoor tasks that may expose you to extreme weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to adverse weather, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and dust, as well as working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Standard work schedule consists of 40 hours per week (5 days).
- Willingness to work extra hours as needed for mission success is essential.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and to bend, twist, and squat for extended periods.
- Capability to lift, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Job requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, and occasional work in cramped or awkward positions.
Essential Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three to six years of experience in a similar role or equivalent.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 level security clearance.
Skills/Experience:
- Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military-grade weaponry.
- Familiarity with electronic technical manuals is necessary.
- Knowledge of GCSS-Army is preferred.
