Position Overview

This role involves the crucial responsibility of ensuring that medical instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and prepared for patient care. The technician will work under indirect supervision to decontaminate, disinfect, prepare, sterilize, store, and distribute various medical instruments and supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects contaminated instruments and supplies while adhering to aseptic protocols.
  • Disassembles and cleans medical instruments and equipment.
  • Utilizes approved disinfectants and cleaning agents for effective decontamination.
  • Assembles, inspects, and tests medical instruments, ensuring they are properly wrapped and dated.
  • Operates sterilization equipment including EtO, Steam Steris, and Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Conducts biological testing and maintains meticulous records of sterilization processes.
  • Delivers processed items to various departments as needed.
  • Manages inventory tracking for durable medical equipment using specialized software.
  • Ensures compliance with local and regional infection control standards.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment, reporting any equipment issues promptly.
Qualifications

Experience: Not applicable.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure/Certification: Must obtain Registered Central Service Technician Certificate within three months of hire.

Additional Skills
  • Familiarity with surgical instruments across various surgical services.
  • Ability to operate sterilization and cleaning equipment effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and proficiency in computer usage.

Note: This position may require rotating weekend shifts.
