Position Description
The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, in collaboration with the Emory University Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for the role of Aflac Neuro-Oncology Researcher. This center offers a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere for fundamental, clinical, and translational research, featuring a diverse faculty.
Ideal candidates will possess a robust record of scientific achievements and a demonstrated history of securing external funding to pursue independent research focused on pediatric solid tumors.
About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center
The successful applicant will become part of one of the nation's leading pediatric hematology/oncology programs, which includes:
- 122 faculty members and 50 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) engaged in comprehensive research on pediatric oncology and hematology disorders.
- Annual treatment of over 7,000 children facing cancer and blood disorders.
- Approximately 500 new cancer diagnoses each year, including around 150 new solid tumors.
- A robust pediatric hematology program with over 2,000 active patients suffering from sickle cell disease and 600 with bleeding or clotting disorders.
- A blood and marrow transplantation program performing around 80 transplants annually, recognized for its leadership in curative therapies.
In 2022, the center was ranked No. 8 nationally for Pediatric Cancer by US News and World Report and has consistently maintained a top 10 position since 2020. Faculty generated $43.3 million in external funding, with over $27.7 million from the NIH.
This position presents extensive opportunities for research collaboration within the Department of Pediatrics, the Winship Cancer Institute, and various other departments and organizations.
Candidate Qualifications
Successful candidates will possess:
- An MD and/or PhD degree.
- A strong record of scholarly work and successful funding as an independent investigator.
- A commitment to mentorship and support for the development of trainees and junior faculty.
- A history of service or leadership within a hematology-oncology program.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments, with a primary focus on innovative research administrative responsibilities.
