Position Summary

We are in search of a dedicated individual to become part of our expanding maintenance team in Michigan. The Flex Engineer will collaborate with our Building Engineering team to provide essential support and coverage as required. This role involves training with our full-time Building Engineer periodically to stay updated on the properties and serve as backup during absences or emergencies. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the well-being of property owners and the safety of tenants by maintaining the physical integrity of the facilities and equipment in accordance with company standards, while also protecting against damage and deterioration. The ideal candidate is an experienced tradesperson with a flexible schedule, possibly a retired engineer or a business owner seeking additional hours without a fixed timetable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly accompany full-time engineers on property tours to familiarize yourself with local assets, tenants, and management teams.
  • Provide backup support during emergencies, employee vacations, or other leaves of absence.
  • Conduct routine evaluations of building systems and operations.
  • Handle minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and service requests for building equipment and tenant areas, both interior and exterior.
  • Supervise the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems of the property; report any deficiencies to the Operations team and Property Manager.
  • Respond to tenant inquiries regarding safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental issues through direct contact and work order systems.
  • Proactively manage the properties by creating and maintaining a task list for the property management team.
  • Document and maintain maintenance logs for assigned properties.
  • Assist in developing and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with Operations Support staff and Property Managers.
  • Act as the primary contact for vendors on assigned properties, which may include checking vendors in/out, escorting them to work areas, and documenting work performed.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks such as waste removal, exterior lock box inspections, and ensuring exterior ladders are secured from public access.
  • Uphold a safe work environment and comply with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and specific customer safety requirements.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Flexible schedule; Flex Engineers will not have a fixed hour schedule but will provide backup coverage as needed.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial building operations engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient in using handheld devices (smartphones) and electronic work order systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to quality work.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
