Trauma Resilience Specialist

Primary Function:

As a Trauma Resilience Specialist at YWCA Kalamazoo, you will assist primary and secondary victims/survivors of sexual assault in building resilience and coping with trauma. This role requires delivering high-quality emotional support, crisis intervention, and advocacy services to those affected.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide brief active crisis mental health support to clients.
  • Coordinate with agency staff to provide integrated care.
  • Offer direct emotional support and/or counseling to primary and secondary survivors, including assessment, individual or group emotional support and/or counseling, and information and referral.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of clients as prescribed by the agency.
  • Coordinate services with other referring agencies.
  • Conduct groups for survivors of violence.
  • Make referrals and advocate on the client's behalf for emergency and routine mental and physical health care.
  • Participate regularly in clinical supervision and team and staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with and train other YWCA and community agency staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Advocate for the needs of victims/survivors through participation on task forces and other working groups, as approved by supervisor.
  • Maintain all necessary records, reports, and statistics, and safeguard confidential information gained as a result of the job.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work required.
  • Specific training in child sexual abuse, trauma, or sexual assault is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of crisis counseling needs, brief approaches to therapy, and trauma-informed best practices.
  • One-two years of direct clinical experience.
  • Certification or licensure in the State of Michigan or eligibility thereof.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of anti-oppression approaches to mental health and best practices in trauma-informed therapeutic modalities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work from a team perspective in treatment provision.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and communicate efficiently and professionally in written and oral formats.
