SSM Health is seeking a highly skilled Cytology Technical Specialist to join our team at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform microscopic examination of cellular specimens to identify and screen for evidence of morphologic changes.
- Analyze and classify cellular constituents in accordance with established criteria.
- Identify questionable cellular configurations and review patient clinical history to establish preliminary interpretation of abnormal morphological features.
- Prepare final reports of gynecological cytology specimens and present abnormal specimens to pathologists for evaluative diagnosis.
- Perform cytopreparatory techniques, staining, and cover slipping procedures to ensure established techniques are utilized.
- Assist supervisor with training and orientation of new employees and medical staff.
- Develop new procedures and techniques as requested and maintain a procedures manual.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
- Three years' technical experience in a laboratory setting.
- Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
