Position Summary

We are seeking skilled electrical engineers to contribute to the design and development of power distribution systems and vehicle control systems for autonomous vehicles.

The role involves collaboration with various departments, including Product Planning, Marketing & Sales, and Management, to assess customer needs and define vehicle-level objectives that facilitate the launch of next-generation autonomous trucks. Responsibilities include engineering support, problem-solving, training, and various engineering tasks associated with heavy truck production.

The scope of work encompasses project definition, conceptual development, final design, validation planning, testing support, and product launch, utilizing standard engineering methodologies with varying levels of supervision based on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage in the development of an Automated Driving System (ADS) Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Platform (AVP), focusing on power distribution systems and electrical architecture integration.
  • Design and release electrical and electronic components and systems related to ADS for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
  • Create technical specifications for redundant power distribution and other ADS components.
  • Integrate ADS electrical/electronic features into PACCAR vehicles.
  • Contribute to new product development by designing wiring harnesses, system schematics, and embedded electronic control modules.
  • Oversee engineering and project management processes to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and functionality.
  • Plan and monitor validation testing of components.
  • Support product launches at assembly facilities.
  • Ensure that all components meet or exceed industry-leading quality and reliability standards.
  • Provide documentation for wiring design, system architecture, and mechanical design teams.
  • Assist in developing procedures that guarantee the quality and reliability of electrical/electronic systems.
  • Manage engineering change notices to oversee part transitions and utilize proprietary software for part bid requests.
  • Conduct initial packaging and space claim studies for AVP components and systems.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Understanding of DC power distribution, management, protection, fusing, and routing systems.
  • Familiarity with DC power storage, conversion, and generation related to low voltage systems.
  • Experience in heavy truck assembly, components, troubleshooting, and electrical systems is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, demonstrate initiative, and communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new engineering techniques and processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software and Mentor Graphics is advantageous.
  • Previous design experience of parts and assemblies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Requirements Management tools and Systems Engineering tools is a plus.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
