The Medical Assistant operates under the direction of the Clinic Manager, RN Case Manager, RN Team Lead, and/or Provider(s). This role is integral to the collaborative approach in delivering patient care and treatment. The MA provides essential clinical support and technical assistance to the healthcare team, ensuring that they operate within their designated competencies based on their training and experience. The individual must effectively manage a demanding workload while maintaining high standards of accuracy. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for engaging with patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Interaction:
- Enhances patient satisfaction by warmly welcoming and proactively addressing patient needs.
- Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests.
- Facilitates patient appointments and gathers all necessary information.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
- Communicates messages efficiently to the relevant healthcare providers.
- Engages in continuous performance improvement initiatives.
- Clinical Duties:
- Assists Providers during patient consultations, including rooming patients, conducting interviews, recording vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, height, and weight, and entering data into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Conducts point-of-care laboratory tests and processes specimens for external laboratories.
- Plans nursing care in accordance with established agency policies and procedures.
- Executes tasks assigned by the Provider in compliance with relevant medical boards.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintains patient records in accordance with practitioner guidelines and Health Center policies.
- Ensures effective communication and management of medical calls.
- Confirms patient appointments daily.
- Participates in team meetings as required.
- Orders and organizes patient medical records, imaging, and laboratory results in preparation for consultations.
- Assists with appointment scheduling and referral processes.
- Handles administrative duties, including completing forms, obtaining prior authorizations, and managing prescription refills.
- Safety and Infection Control:
- Adheres to Universal Precautions rigorously.
- Delivers patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes healthcare errors.
- Follows safety protocols and reports incidents to the supervisor within the required timeframe.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, including restocking supplies.
- Professional Development:
- Responsible for keeping knowledge and skills current.
- Participates in training sessions, staff meetings, and educational opportunities as appropriate.
Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a Medical Assistant, ideally in a primary care environment.
Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is mandatory.
Physical Requirements:
