Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Administrative Police Officer to join our team at Eastern Virginia Medical School. As an Administrative Police Officer, you will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative duties to support the department's operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the department, including but not limited to, picking up daily financial instruments, delivering them to the financial offices, and assisting with training and investigations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, training sessions, and investigations.
  • Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication with various departments and personnel, including the Training Lieutenant, Police Investigator, and Emergency Manager.
  • Safety and Security: Conduct daily lock bag duty, perform safety checks, and assist with emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Training and Development: Assist with training classes, prepare training materials, and conduct training sessions for personnel and the campus community.
  • Investigations: Assist with preliminary and follow-up investigations as needed.
  • Emergency Management: Assist with updates, modifications, and tracking changes to Emergency Operations, Evacuation, and Continuity of Operations plans.
  • Campus Safety: Conduct campus safety assessments and maintain knowledge of the campus layout.
  • Patrol Duties: May be called upon to perform patrol duties to assist PO I and PO II in providing requested services.
  • Testimony: Be prepared to provide testimony in court as required.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a law enforcement officer or 6 months of experience as a Police Officer 1 with EVMS Department of Police and Public Safety.
  • Certifications: Certified by the Virginia DCJS as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer; IAHSS basic certification preferred.
