Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Lead to join our team in Danbury, CT. As a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of complex systems from pre-proposal activities through final design, manufacturing, assembly, integration, verification, and delivery.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in system development, with a strong background in technical leadership and program planning. You will be responsible for providing technical direction and oversight to integrated product teams, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and shape customer requirements, assisting business development in defining opportunities for future contracts.
  • Develop top-level system architecture for mission solutions, including optical and electronic design requirements, on-board processing requirements, platform interfaces, and CONOPS.
  • Define, execute, and oversee system design trades.
  • Interface with customers throughout the product life cycle as the lead technical representative of the product development team.
  • Lead program teams, including other engineering disciplines and interfacing with program management, to develop system design concepts and decompose and flow down system requirements to lower-level assemblies and components.
  • Prepare and present material for formal design reviews and customer meetings.
  • Define and lead internal IR&D projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant work experience (or Master's with 10+ years), including:
    • Decomposition of complex systems into logical building blocks and the ability to develop error budgets and requirements traceability.
    • Evaluation and definition of optical, mechanical, electrical, and environmental inputs into a system and their influence on overall requirements compliance.
    • Program planning, including scope definition, resourcing, and budgeting.
    • Proficient technical writing skills, including proposal content, requirements specifications, verification matrices, verification plans, and verification reports.
    • CONOPS development.
    • Technical leadership of cross-functional/discipline teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with solutions for spaceborne missions.
