Position Summary
The Campus Safety Officer role is situated within Patrol Operations of Campus Safety. These officers serve as the primary safety and security personnel for the University. Their responsibilities encompass a range of duties, including patrolling the campus and its facilities, as well as assisting the campus community with various issues and concerns. Multiple positions will be filled from this posting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patrols of designated areas, physically inspecting buildings and ensuring safety at doors, windows, entries, and exits.
- Respond to fire alarms and emergencies.
- Communicate and collaborate with fire, police divisions, and other public safety entities.
- Provide initial responses to emergencies and criminal incidents on University property, conducting preliminary investigations to determine outcomes.
- Offer general assistance to the campus community and visitors.
- Apprehend violators of applicable laws and regulations on or involving university property.
- Operate University patrol vehicles and radio equipment as assigned.
- Complete written reports and maintain logs related to campus activities.
- Serve as the Division dispatcher, managing incoming service calls, monitoring fire and intrusion alarms, dispatching officers, and overseeing CCTV systems.
- Adhere to all Division and University policies, procedures, directives, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in the interview panel during the Division's selection and hiring process when requested by Senior Management.
- Engage in the Division's recruitment and accreditation efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under University guidelines.
- Successfully pass a written job-related skills examination.
- Complete a thorough background check, including criminal history and verification of employment and education.
- Pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and human performance evaluation conducted by an approved physician.
Post-Hire Employment Requirements
- Ability to obtain or possess a City and County of Denver Security Guard License within three weeks of hire.
- Successfully complete initial certification in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED, Defensive Driving, and Threat Pattern Recognition (TPR) Use of Force Basic within three weeks of hire.
- Maintain re-certifications in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED and TPR to ensure job-related skills are current.
- Complete an annual physical assessment test as part of TPR re-certification to maintain job-related physical fitness standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent credit hours in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Management; or 6+ months of related law enforcement/Campus Safety experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Environment
As field-based personnel, Campus Safety Officers regularly work outdoors in various weather conditions. This position may require assignments to any shift or combination of shifts as determined by management. Officers are considered essential personnel and may be called upon to work additional hours to cover shifts or provide special event coverage.
Physical Activities
All personnel required to have a City and County of Denver issued Security Guard License must successfully pass a job-related human performance evaluation as part of a conditional offer of employment. This evaluation will assess various physical capabilities necessary for the role.
Work Schedule
This is a non-exempt position with a 40-hour work week. Officers may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
