Job Summary

CNA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriting Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting department, you will be responsible for assessing and pricing complex risks, developing specialized endorsement language, and making recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and price complex risks, utilizing diagnostic and systematic analysis to determine acceptability.
  • Develop specialized endorsement language for highly complex risks.
  • Determine appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business, based on financial and competitive analysis.
  • Make recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.
  • Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks underwritten, and prepare and present reports to management.
  • Market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community, and make field visits.
  • Develop and maintain agency and/or broker relationships with large producers within the assigned territory.
  • Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters, and assist in the development of underwriting training.
  • Utilize advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.
  • Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations.
Requirements
  • Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill, and high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Professional designations preferred.
  • Typically a minimum eight years underwriting experience.
