Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cardiac Monitor Technician to join our team at Owensboro Health. As a Cardiac Monitor Technician, you will be responsible for monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, heart rates, and other vital signs for patients in critical care, cardiac medical/surgical, and interventional platform areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and communicate changes in cardiac rhythm and heart rate
  • Interpret and document rhythm, heart rate, and measurements in the electronic medical record
  • Identify normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms and rates, and respond to clinically significant cardiac rhythms or rate disturbances
  • Determine, review, and revise alarm settings for each patient based on physician orders and/or telemetry protocols and policies
  • Recognize artifacts in tracings and take appropriate corrective action with timely notification to the appropriate nursing staff
  • Attach electrode leads to proper body areas, prepare skin and surroundings for valid results, and obtain and document EKG readings as directed
  • Program, monitor, and register patients on-line depending on the ordered monitor, and monitor patients during procedures and report any abnormal findings
  • Notes and forwards results to physicians for analysis and interpretation, and maintains clean and orderly work area
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting, and performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher preferred
  • No experience required, but Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of employment
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment, ability to work in a stressful environment, and physical demands including standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and pushing/pulling
