Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Owensboro Medical Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for collecting and processing clinical laboratory specimens of the patient population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Physician Reports: Assist in delivering physicians' reports via phone and electronic distribution in a timely manner.
  • Specimen Collection: Perform venipuncture on patients of all age groups and other specimen collection using proper therapeutic skills and according to procedures.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Maintain work area and supplies according to protocol between patients and end of shift.
  • Laboratory Information System: Maintain laboratory information system. Monitor error logs.
  • Diagnosis and Demographics: Obtain diagnosis and patient demographics to ensure proper billing.
  • Sample Receipt: Receive samples into the laboratory, order, and access.
  • Reference Lab Orders: Responsible for reference lab orders and results.
  • Waived Laboratory Testing: May perform waived laboratory testing on-site and reports results according to government standards.
  • Specimen Processing: Assist with specimen processing and pre-analytical testing functions.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to students and other personnel populations.
Qualifications
  • No experience required upon hire.
  • No experience required.
  • CPT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician from National Heathcareer Association (NHA) preferred OR
  • PBT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred OR
  • RPT - Phlebotomy Technician certification through American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred AND
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position.
