About the Position

This is a critical role within the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Facilities and Administrative Services. The incumbent will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety, Health, and Environmental Branch, supporting the Office of the Secretary and other non-Bureau safety and health programs nationwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate safety and occupational health programs within assigned areas, including building maintenance, construction, hazmat/hazwaste storage, and administrative facilities.
  • Develop and recommend safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Manage the Office of Facilities and Administrative Services' inspection program, conducting comprehensive evaluations and developing changes to minimize injuries and damage to agency property.
  • Collaborate with the Facility Maintenance Division on matters related to confine space program, hazardous material program, and indoor air quality program.
  • Serve as the occupational safety, health, and wellness subject matter expert for OFAS within the Stewart Lee Udall Building.
  • Participate in safety committees, work groups, and cross-functional teams, and serve as a member of the nationwide safety management group.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation.
  • Direct Deposit of pay is required.
  • Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following basic qualification requirements:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields, or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
  • OR Specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health, including experience in managing safety or occupational health program elements, developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy, and applying safety and occupational health laws and regulations.
