ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a nonprofit entity recognized under 501(c)(3) status, situated in the Los Angeles area. Our mission is to support individuals and families facing homelessness by offering extensive emergency and long-term assistance to help them transition away from the perils of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM stands as one of the largest and oldest rescue missions in the United States.

CLASS C DRIVER ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Class C Driver plays a crucial role in the collection of donations and the provision of transportation services for residents and staff as required.

CORE WORK PRINCIPLE:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect donations from various sites and manage the physical loading and unloading at distribution centers or thrift outlets.
  • Keep accurate records by completing driver logs and donor receipts.
  • Deliver food and supplies to URM's additional locations on a regular schedule.
  • Ensure safe operation of the vehicle at all times.
  • Assist at Distribution Facilities as needed.
  • Provide transportation for staff and guests to and from the mission as required.
  • Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Director of Procurement & Logistics/Transportation Manager.
  • Demonstrate commitment to URM's mission, vision, and core values.
  • Encourage guests in their spiritual journey and growth.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience of at least 3 years.
  • A minimum of 1 year of driving experience is required.
  • A valid Class C driver's license is mandatory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak, and write clearly for effective communication.
  • Possession of a clean driving record.
  • Eligibility to be included in the company’s insurance policy.
  • Willingness to undergo random drug testing as mandated by the California Department of Transportation.
  • Capability to organize workload for efficient task execution.
  • Background in customer service is advantageous.
