Job Description

About the Role:

The Energy Storage Engineer will play a crucial role in developing preliminary designs and evaluating new markets, energy storage applications, and use cases for RWE AG. This position requires knowledge of energy markets to ensure optimal use cases for projects in front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop preliminary PV and BESS system use energy cases through customer bill evaluation, utility tariff, and energy market evaluation (retail or wholesale)
  • Support the interconnection application submitted and managed by the internal team through technical knowledge
  • Evaluate and select energy storage equipment
  • Provide construction support and commissioning for energy storage systems
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet internal engineering standards and pertinent codes
  • Coordinate external engineering resources as necessary and manage task orders and accounting processes
  • Develop specifications for BESS system controls to ensure compliance with the energy use case model
  • Create detailed permit and construction drawing packages for electrical portions of BES projects
  • Review Request for Proposals and support proposal development, providing detailed technical project descriptions, legal risk and responsibility definitions, financial analysis, and supporting documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • PE Registration as a Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • Driver's License required
  • Competent with computer software, including Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Matlab, and SKM/ETap
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy storage systems and products
  • Experience reviewing utility tariffs and energy market evaluation
  • Ability to develop energy storage use case models, incorporating equipment efficiencies, degradation, and thermal management, and integrate into a use case financial model that incorporates utility and energy market evaluation components
  • Able to plan and manage the development and production of permit and contract documents for electrical energy storage systems
  • Ability to integrate verbal and written communications with interpersonal skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work within a cross-functional team
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment individually or as part of a team
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various problems

Work Environment: This position is a hybrid office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWE AG offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
