Job Title: Energy Storage Engineer

Job Summary:

The Energy Storage Engineer will play a crucial role in developing preliminary designs and evaluating new markets, energy storage applications, and use cases for RWE Clean Energy, LLC. This position requires knowledge of energy markets to ensure optimal use cases for projects in front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop preliminary PV and BESS system use energy cases through customer bill evaluation, utility tariff, and energy market evaluation (retail or wholesale)
  • Support the interconnection application submitted and managed by the internal team through technical knowledge
  • Energy Storage equipment evaluation and selection
  • Energy storage system construction support and commissioning by field contractors
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet the internal engineering standards and pertinent codes
  • Coordinate external engineering resources as necessary and manage the task order and accounting process
  • Develop specifications for BESS system controls to ensure compliance with the energy use case model
  • Create a detailed Permit and Construction drawing package for the electrical portion of BES projects
  • Review of Request for Proposals and support proposal development. Provide proposal input including detailed technical project descriptions, legal risk and responsibility definitions, financial analysis, detailed supporting documentation of contractor quotes, simulation results, and cost and savings derivations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • PE Registration as a Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • Driver's License required
  • Competent with computer software including Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Matlab, and SKM/ETap
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Energy storage systems and products
  • Experience reviewing utility tariffs and energy market evaluation
  • Exhibited ability to develop Energy Storage use case models, which incorporate equipment efficiencies, degradation, and thermal management and integrate into a use case financial model that incorporates utility and energy market evaluation components
  • Able to plan and manage the development and production of permit and contract documents for the construction of electrical Energy Storage systems
  • Ability to integrate both verbal and written communications with interpersonal skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work within a cross-functional team
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment individually or as part of a team
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various problems
  • Capable of interacting effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadline
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated existing and continued desire to learn about the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams

  • Ability to multi-task while working independently and as part of a team

Work Environment:

This position is a hybrid office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.

Pay range:

The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $108,000.00 - $165,000.00. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
