Position Overview

Smiths Group plc is seeking a dedicated Client Reliability Specialist to enhance our customer support at a designated facility. This role involves on-site collaboration with clients to ensure adherence to partnership agreements. The specialist will address and resolve issues related to product functionality and application-specific requirements. Responsibilities include providing straightforward recommendations regarding seals and equipment based on established engineering principles. Travel may be necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and engage directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate customer applications and offer tailored recommendations.
  • Diagnose specific client issues and analyze seal performance problems.
  • Enhance Mean Time Between Repairs (MTBR) and minimize material expenses.
  • Streamline inventory by setting reduction standards and optimizing stock levels.
  • Engage in effective communication with clients, company staff, and suppliers, providing guidance and technical support.
  • Deliver technical and commercial presentations to clients or management as needed.
  • Support the development of client seal standardization initiatives.
  • Assist in creating inventory management strategies for client implementation.
  • Proactively address issues in existing installations and negotiate material modifications with clients and sales teams.
  • Identify and recommend productivity enhancements through seal upgrades.
  • Approve designs and materials for seals and components, including layouts and assembly drawings.
  • Compile reports and recommendations for management while aiding in the development of partnership programs.
  • Propose innovative solutions to challenges encountered in the role.
  • Suggest new standards and procedures for seal component design and manufacturing.
  • Monitor and report on field performance, gathering and assessing data while collaborating with local offices and sales representatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical seals and rotating equipment, along with foundational engineering knowledge.
  • Familiarity with labor reporting systems, work order variances, and software such as QAD, MFG-PRO, or SAP.
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen and Lean methodologies.
  • Proficient in personal computer usage, MS Office, and machining practices; CNC programming is a plus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet business needs.
  • Understanding of the financial aspects of manufacturing operations.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent training, leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capable of completing tasks efficiently and on time.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $80,000 annually.
