About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the County of Marin's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) team as a Peer Counselor II, Bilingual Required. As a Peer Counselor, you will work closely with individuals and families to provide support and guidance in achieving their mental health and wellness goals.

Job Summary

The Peer Counselor II, Bilingual Required will provide peer support and guidance to individuals and families in the community, focusing on underserved and unserved populations. This role requires a strong understanding of the behavioral health system and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support and guidance to individuals and families in the community
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive support services
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • Current or previous lived experience as a consumer of services or as a family member/caregiver of a former or current consumer
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency certificate
  • One year of experience comparable to the BHRS Peer Counselor I
  • Successful completion of intermediate coursework level in a Peer Counseling or Substance Use Educational Certificate Program
  • Ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in both Spanish and English
Preferred Qualifications
  • College or university degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field
  • 24 units of college coursework in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
  • Two years of volunteer, internship, or work experience of at least 20 hours per week at a public behavioral healthcare setting
